Press Releases as News
All press releases are technically "news" but some press releases fit the news criteria more than others. Press releases that I have determined to fall in the "news" category include anything that would actually be reported in a news publication. These kind of press releases include important business transactions like young companies receiving series A, B, or C funding, mergers or partnerships forged between companies, product recalls, a public statement by a company in reaction to negative news, large investments made by growing companies, and anything "noteworthy" that an individual might do that is news worthy--such as philanthropic efforts, legislation, and certain kinds of promotional events.
